Sacha Baron Cohen To Play Freddy Mercury
Yes, it’s true Borat aka Sacha Baron Cohen is going to play Freddy Mercury in a film about the British rock band Queen. Peter Morgan (Frost/Nixon and Last King of Scotland) is set to write the film which will focus on the rise of the bands success up until their Live Aid performance in 1985. Something tells me this films going to be big.
GEEK FACT: When Sacha Baron Cohen speaks Kazakh it is mostly Hebrew disguised by a heavy fake Eastern European accent.
Willow Smith Signs To Jay-Z’s Record Label
It seems like the Smith’s are making big power moves right now. First Jaden stars as the lead role in The Karate Kid and now Willow signs to Roc Nation?. Yep, the little girl (specifically 9 years old) with a big attitude is giving it all she’s got in her debut single ‘Whip My Hair’. Now, Jay-Z has snapped her up, as the youngest addition to Roc Nation and this is what he said;
“We at Roc Nation are excited to work with Willow. She has an energy and enthusiasm about her music that is truly infectious. It’s rare to find an artist with such innate talent and creativity at such a young age. Willow is about to embark on an incredible journey and we look forward to joining her as she grows in all aspects of her career.” God I feel old!
Joaquin Phoneix Is Nearly Here
I’m getting overly excited about going to see Joaquin Phoneix – I’m Still Here tomorrow night. Check out the new images of the film that have just been released. Yes, I know they don’t give much away but what the heck they’re still new images! The film comes out in the UK on the 17th September so put that date in your diary geeks!
Movie Geeks Caught Up With Tyler Perry
“If you’re having marriage problems I feel bad for you son, I got 99 problems but a b**** ain’t one” (I had to tailor Jigga’s lyric, lol). But trust, me if you’ve got marriage problems the only film you need to see this weekend is ‘Why Did I Get Married Too?’. It stars an A-List cast including; Janet Jackson, Jill Scott, Tyler Perry and loads more. I caught up with Tyler Perry who directed and starred in the film and if you didn’t know was the Executive Producer of this years biggest film ‘Precious’.

Anna Paquin and Kristen Bell Join Scream 4
It seems that we’re all excited about ‘Scream 4′ (okay, maybe it’s just me) but the cast seems to be getting more and more interesting by the day. The old gang Courteney Cox, Neve Campbell and David Arquette are all back to their crime fighting ways. But a few new faces have all ready started filming including; Emma Roberts, Hayden Panettiere, Rory Culkin and Marley Shelton. Now, the latest additions to the film are ‘True Blood’ star Anna Paquin and Sarah Marshall aka Kristen Bell. Just a thought but why hasn’t Craven given Ghostface Killah a cameo? Or maybe he’ll be in Scary Movie 6 because you know that’s not too far behind.
Spielberg Wants The Locke & Key
It’s refreshing when you see celebrities kids that don’t sponge off their parents and Joe Hill is one of them. He is the son of Stephen King and responsible for the comic book series ‘Locke & Key’. The graphic novel is about three kids (Tyler, Kinsey and Bode Locke) who relocate with their mother to Lovecraft, Massachusetts, following the murder of their father. They move into Keyhouse, a mansion filled with doors that lead into different worlds and gift the siblings with special powers. Now it looks like Steven Spielberg wants to turn the series into a film and TV project. He’s teaming up with Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci of ‘Star Trek‘ and ‘Eagle Eye‘ and ‘Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles’ show runner Josh Friedman who will write and executive producer on the TV series.
The Tempest Poster
Helen Mirren is back to kick some ass in a new big screen version of Shakespeare’s ‘The Tempest’. The 2010 version will take a brand new dynamic to the 400 year old story by changing the gender of the sorcerer Prospera from a male to a female. Played by Helen Mirren, in this film she reigns over a magical island and unleashes her bad-ass powers on her enemies. Other stars that will be featuring in this film include; Russell Brand (of course), Djimon Hounsou, Alan Cumming and Chris Cooper.

Jackass 3D is out in the UK on the 5th November – do I need to say anymore?
Vampires Suck!
Only 1 more day left until thousands of cinemas across the UK will be full of Twi-hard fans (hurray) but here’s one film that I’m sure a lot of fan’s won’t be too pleased about. It’s called Vampires Suck and is written and directed by Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer who bought us the Scary Movie series, Date Movie and Disaster Movie (that was a disaster). The film takes a dig at the Twilight series, Jersey Shore, Alice In Wonderland and Lady Gaga (random I know). It doesn’t star an A-list cast but you may recognize The Hangover’s Ken Jeong and 90210′s Matt Lanter. Check out the trailer below.
Twilight Eclipse You Tube Game
Only 8 more days until The Twlight Saga: Eclipse is out in the UK but until then, check out the interactive You Tube game that seems to be getting just as much attention as the film. The video was written and directed by Benny and Rafi Fine aka The Fine Brothers and without trying to get all geeky on you, they used the very latest in 8-bit graphic and sound design technology to bring the characters to life. So, for those who wish that Bella would just pick a guy, start one massive battle and get it over with can finally do that with Twilight Eclipse: The 8-Bit Interactive Game. The “game” is actually a series of You Tube clips, each roughly about 1 minute long that end with an embedded Choose Your Own Adventure style links that let viewers tell Bella what to do next. So…what you waiting for? Start gaming! (I love the choice of music in the game).

Tina Fey’s Going On A Date Night
If there’s one actress, comedienne, writer, and producer I can’t get enough right now,it’s Tina Fey. She’s the brains behind 30 Rock, does the best impression of Sarah Palin and wrote the screenplay for Mean Girls (without a doubt one of my favourite chick flicks). I was genuinely gutted when I heard the news that Kate Winslet and Sam Mendes were splitting up. The British couple have been together for 7 years and now its over. Apparently it was a mutual decision and now rumours are flying around that Kate is going to her good mate Leo for support.
Oscar Double Whammy
GEEK FACT – Steve and Alec will be the first multiple co-hosts since 1987, when funny man Chevy Chase, Goldie Hawn and Paul Hogan did the honors.
Steve and Alec are also starring in the film ‘It’s Complicated’ alongside Meryl Streep which is out on the 8th January 2010.
