Special Screenings: Bill Cunningham New York

Last week I went to a screening of the BEST fashion documentary ever! Forget The September Issue, that’s a load of crap compared to this film.

Bill Cunningham New York is a documentary film about New York fashion photographer Bill Cunningham. He’s an 82-year-old man that rides around New York on his bike taking pictures of trendies. The filmmakers follow him as he attends fashion events, travels to Paris but for me the most interesting part of this film was Bill’s personal life. Although he is well-respected by fashion editors like Anna Wintour’s and is always on the front row of the biggest fashion shows, no one really knows anything about him. Bill lives in a tiny apartment that is literally full of filing cabinets of all the negatives pictures he has ever taken. The man doesn’t even have his own bathroom, kitchen, or shower. Even more interesting is that although he is in the fashion industry, he’s only got a hand full of clothes to his name and his blue signature jacket is the same $20 jacket that New York dustbin men wear. Bill Cunningham is an intelligent, well respected, passionate and one hell of a grafter and although he could make A LOT of money, he believes that self repsect is more important – I love this guy.

Bill Cunningham New York comes out in the UK on the 16th March so I suggest you all put that date in your diary…now!

Behind The Scenes Of Battleship

The Sitter Soundtrack

So, I went to watch The Sitter a few days ago and anyone that reads this blog on a regular basis knows that I was super excited about watching the film. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not going to win any Oscars or anything but it is one funny ass film. The fact that Jonah Hill plays the babysitter is pretty funny within itself but when you’ve got a kid who’s obsessed with being a celebrity thrown in their, Method Man playing the gentle thug and Sam Rockwell as the local gangster, it’s pretty awesome.

One of my favourite things about this comedy flick was the soundtrack. Any film that starts with Slick Rick ‘Children’s Story’ gets my vote! Check out the soundtracks below if you don’t believe me – Jonah Hill you are a comedy genius!

The Sitter comes out on the 20th January.

Lina Sands Is Angelina Jolie

I don’t normally blog stuff like this but gosh Lina Sands is the best Angelina Jolie look alike that I’ve ever seen! Lucky cow!

Lina is a spanish actress who has been living in the UK for the last 8 years studying acting. Now she is working with Susan Scott, an agency that has Kate Middleton and Prince William lookalikes on their books as well as a dead ringer for Queen Elizabeth.

GEEK FACT: Angelina Jolie’s directorial debut, In the Land of Blood and Honey hits our screens on the 12th February.

Merry Christmas Geeks!

Afternoon geeks! I’m on my way home for Christmas and I just wanted to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Thank you for reading my blog throughout 2011. I’ve had so much fun blogging this year and I hope you’ve had just as much fun reading it! My highlights for Movie Geeks in 2011 has to be my interview with Russell Brand featuring on Tinie Tempah’s International Mixtape, getting the chance to interview some of the most talented and sweetest people in the acting game including; Bradley Cooper, Danny McBride, Channing Tatum and Jamie Bell and of course the Bridesmaids cast (I heart Kristen Wiig). Plus, I’ve been lucky enough to be the first to watch some of the best films of the year including; The Help, Beats Rhymes & Life: The Travels of a Tribe Called Quest, Drive, 30 Minutes Or Less and Warrior just to name a few.

I hope you’ve all had a great year. Now, make sure you eat lots of food throughout the festive period and watch lots of films.

MERRY CHRIMBO!!!!!!!!

Childish Gambino Is A Movie Geek

Childish Gambino aka Donald Glover was recently in the UK promoting his brand new album Camp (love it). We asked him what his favourite festive film of all time was and there’s no surprises here. Bad Santa was released in 2003 and starred Billy Bob Thornton, the late Bernie Mac, Tony Cox and that weird chubby kid Brett Kelly. If you’re thinking about watching Bad Santa over the festive period, whatever you do, DON’T watch it with your parents, it’s not that kind of film.

Check out the video for Childish Gambino’s latest record Bonfire below – it’s awesome!.

Big Sean Is A Movie Geek

A$$, A$$, A$$, A$$! Sorry, I can’t help but say that whenever I think about Big Sean. The guy has got so much energy and swag I’m actually quite shocked that he chose Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi as his favourite films of all time – what a geek! Anyway, if you’re a fan of Big Sean, why not check it out. On the other hand if you’ve never heard of Big Sean he’s signed to Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music label and released his debut album Finally Famous earlier on this year. He’s collaborated with Pharrell, Kanye West, Chris Brown, John Legend, Chiddy Bang and Wiz Khalifa on the album which is flippin awesome! It’s personally one of my favourite albums of 2012 – Yeah boi!

Christmas Day (New Years Eve Parody)

Someone pass me the sick bucket.

Kristen Wiig Covers ‘Paper Mag’

I love Kristen Wiig, she is one of the funniest comedians in Hollywood but also one of the most underrated actresses in the industry. I guess, that’s why I’m so happy that she’s been nominated for a Golden Globe for her role in Bridesmaids – yay!. Check out her interview in this months issue of Paper Mag.

On if she anticipated Bridesmaids‘ success: “It was like a baby that was cooking for almost five years. With comedy, you just never know, like withSNL. You can do a sketch that goes really well with the table, and then people are laughing at rehearsals, and then you do it at dress and it couldn’t be more silent. Comedy is just so personal and objective. And with the movie, we tried to mix the funny with having it be real and emotional … That’s a long way to say that yes, I was surprised byBridesmaids‘ success.”

On her favorite SNL host so far: “It’s so hard to pick one, it’s like picking a favorite child. Let’s see … Maybe Jon Hamm [who also appeared in Bridesmaids]. I had heard before he hosted that he was into comedy, but we knew him only as [Mad Men's] Don Draper before the first show. And when he got there, everyone was just like, ‘holy sh–.’”

On doing SNL when you’re really, really sick: “The other week, I felt horrible. I had the fever, chills, a headache, and hadn’t written my Weekend Update bit yet, which I had to perform the next day. In my head I was like, ‘Oh my God, I don’t want to do it, how am I going to do it?’ It was the one where I talk really fast. I was writing with Kent Sublette, and he was like, ‘we just have to do it, we just have to write it.’ So I was just lying on my couch under a blanket while he was typing. We were laughing a little bit, but I just felt like shit. I had the worst migraine. There’s something kind of good about knowing you just have to do it, like you don’t have a choice. They call it “Doctor Theater.” So I wrote the sketch and did the show the next day. I completely collapsed when I got home.”

On moving to the Upper West Side: “I live downtown, but when I first got to the show, I didn’t know anything about New York. I asked a friend where I should live, and he was like, ‘live on the Upper West Side.’ So I just got an apartment there, and it was nice, very quiet. But I was going downtown more and realized that’s where I was meant to be.’

On who she would like to work with someday: “I would love to work with Woody Allen. And I love Tim Burton movies…”
